The latest: Chicago Spire

"Might the hole, 76 feet deep by 110 feet wide, be filled with water and become the world's deepest swimming pool? Perhaps demonic sports federation directors would threaten to send losers in Olympic swimming races there, forcing them to backstroke in circles for the rest of their lives."

With Strings Attached

President Obama approved a bill this week that would limit compensation of executives employed by firms receiving 'bailout' funds from the U.S. Government, i.e. the taxpayers. The cap is currently set at $500k per year. It seems logical for some 'strings' to be put in place regarding the billions of dollars being allocated to banks. Already the Obama policy is coming under fire from constituents claiming such a move would be un-capitalistic. That arguement has no merit at this point, considering that the bailout set a precendent for New Capitalism.

Question: can Obama (the Executive Branch) create laws as he sees fit? Is that not a Legislative power? Law buffs are up in arms.

A 'blueprint' for tackling climate change a la the team effort in the EU was recently released. The European Commission is pushing for support from both developed and developing nations in 2009 and beyond. Long term goals include 1.) involving all OECD nations in an expanded carbon emissions-trading scheme and 2.) forcing ideologies upon trading neighbors in Asia.

Good news for carbon traders--
CDM is being promoted from within the EU to the rest of the developing world.
